How to schedule commands and restarts on your Rust server

Run RCON commands, announcements and restarts on a timetable with scheduled automation rules.

Updated Oct 28, 2026

A scheduled rule runs on a timetable you choose, for example every hour or every day at 06:00, and sends any RCON command to your server. It keeps running when no staff member is online.

Schedule a command

  1. 1

Open the server and select Automation, then create a rule.

  2. 2

    Choose the Schedule trigger.

  3. 3

Pick a preset such as every hour or daily, or type your own timetable in five fields: minute, hour, day, month and weekday. Times are in UTC.

  4. 4

Add an RCON Command action with the command to run, or a Notification action to post in Discord.

  5. 5

Optionally turn on Skip when server is empty, so the rule does not run when nobody is online.

  6. 6

Test the rule, then turn it on.

Schedule a daily restart

Make a scheduled rule for a quiet hour, for example 0 6 * * * for every day at 06:00 UTC, with one RCON Command action:

  • restart 300 "Daily restart"

Rust counts down the 300 seconds, shows players the countdown and your message before it restarts. Change the number to give more or less warning.

Rust saves the world and shuts down on restart. Your host has to start it again; most Rust hosts do this on their own. GameSentry reconnects once the server is back.

Use the Server Restarted trigger in another rule to post in Discord when the server is back up.

Ideas

  • Post the rules and your Discord link in chat every hour.
  • Run a command every night, such as a save or a plugin reload.
  • Send a daily server status message to Discord.

A rule without a server runs on every server in your organization. Free organizations can have 3 rules; Beta Tester access raises the limit.

Everything GameSentry does for Rust servers is on one page: Rust admin tool and web RCON panel.
