Alt Account Detection

Detect players using alternative Steam accounts to evade bans.

Updated 2026-03-07 altdetectionevasionip

GameSentry can detect when players create new Steam accounts to evade bans by correlating connection data such as IP addresses.

How Detection Works

When a player connects, GameSentry checks their IP address against the IPs of previously banned players. If a match is found, the player is flagged as a potential alt account.

What's Tracked

  • IP address associations between Steam accounts
  • Connection patterns and timing
  • Shared hardware identifiers (when available from game server)

Alt detection is not perfect — players on shared networks (universities, VPNs) may trigger false positives. Always review flagged players before taking action.

VPN Detection

With the Starter plan or higher, GameSentry can detect players connecting through VPNs or proxies. This helps identify players who may be trying to mask their real IP to evade bans.

VPN detection checks are rate-limited based on your plan: Starter (200/day), Pro (1,000/day), Business (10,000/day).
