The yearly Halloween event is now enabled and runs until November 5th. It adds a timed candy hunt, a monster-building system, portals across the island and a batch of spooky cosmetics and items.
Candy Hunt
Roughly every two in-game days, a Candy Hunt starts. Players have three minutes to collect as much candy as they can. The top three receive special loot bags. Candy and bags open into a range of loot, from scrap up to an M249. Players who miss the podium can still upgrade their candy for better rewards.
Build a Monster
Scarecrows and mummies roam the map. Once a player has collected a head, torso and legs, they can craft a Frankenstein's table and place the parts inside it. The result is a pet monster that follows the player, defends them and helps attack chosen targets. Press P to control it.
If the pet menu won't open or P is already bound to something else, use the command bind X +pets or change the key in the in-game controls menu.
The Rift Is Open
Portals have appeared across the island. Cultists are said to be behind them, while others suspect a Cobalt experiment gone wrong. Little is known about what they do or where they lead, and only a few players have gone through and come back.
Store Items and Drops
- Limited skins: three wallpapers (Cultist Tile, Manor Ceiling and Derelict Wood), a Skull Wall Lamp skin for the Tuna Can Lamp, and an inflatable Alien Costume with three variations.
- Spooky Decor Bundle: the three wallpapers and the Skull Wall Lamp, plus an exclusive Halloween Wreath and Halloween String Lights.
- Dracula Mask and Cape: the mask gives early-game head protection and needs ten pieces of cloth. The cape gives strong outer protection. Capes can be found on undead corpses.
- Wooden Stake: kills undead with one strike and yields extra loot. Stakes can also be found on undead corpses.
- Cosmetic reskins: a Hockey Facemask (a Metal Facemask reskin), a Cultist Deer Torch (the starter torch, which you respawn with once selected or crafted) and a Baseball Bat (a mace reskin).
- Twitch Rivals Base Invaders: on October 23 at 6PM UTC, with a one-day Spooky Backpack drop on the /twitchrivals channel. General drops run until November 1 on any Rust channel. Connect your Twitch and Steam accounts to receive them.
- Discord Zombie Wumpus Plush: eligible Nitro subscribers can claim it in the Rust Game Shop on Discord with Discord Orbs from October 22 to November 5. It's a deployable companion that gives 70% comfort when near it.
What It Means for Server Owners
- Plan for the event window. Candy hunts and rifts are active until November 5.
- Control the rifts. Use the
halloweendungeon.populationconvar to set the portal count on your server. - Expect key-binding questions. If players can't reach the pet menu, point them to
bind X +petsor the controls menu. - Review loot and progression settings. New items such as capes, stakes and the mask are tied to undead drops and crafting, so check how they fit your setup if you tune loot.
